Fi was very clear from the start; “I like wearing men’s suits.”
Seeing the fabrics that she was using I decided to use lighting that really brought out the texture of the clothing. Heavily inked I didn’t want that to be the ‘main event’ which had been the case when I’d researched her previous work. In fact for a lot of tattoo models you almost don’t see the person, you only see the ink.
For a lot of female tattoo models more often than not that means nude, implied or lingerie shots. They are not my genres. Far better to suggest than to completely display.
I wanted the portraits to be aspirational not fantastical, to give a sense of her self-confidence and empowerment with the suit working as a kind of armour.
